Sheffield Mini 3v3 U12s Festival

The Lothian Phoenix U12’s travelled down to Sheffield to play in the first ever U12 Wheelchair Basketball Tournament in Britain. The tournament was organised by Sheffield Steelers and proved to be a great success with 10 teams travelling from across the country to attend the event.

In addition to playing their scheduled five games, the Phoenix Kids played a friendly against Sheffield Steelers, winning 11-8. They, along with the other players at the tournament completed Level One & Two of the GBWBA Star Awards. As well as receiving their awards the players also received a certificate of attendance from the tournament organisers.

The second game was a narrow defeat. Nice baskets from S. Duff, Logan and Beattie.

All 12 points for Phoenix on the board by number 7 Logan. Good comeback in the second half.

Lothian Phoenix 14 - 0 Wakefield Whirlwinds
S. Duff, Logan, and Harper all scored in the first half. S. Duff with a 3 bringing the game to an end to win 14 to 0.

Lothian Phoenix 18 - 7 Wolverhampton Rhinos
Beattie started the scoring with a 3 followed quickly by 3s from S. Duff and Logan to finish the half 9 to 7. A big 3 from Logan to start the half followed by a 3 from S. Duff and a 3 from Logan to finish the game 18 to 7.

Stevie Duff coached the team in Sheffield and said, “This was an excellent opportunity for our youngest club members to get a taste of what it is like to play for the Phoenix and to travel down south for fixtures. The kids and their parents thoroughly enjoyed the trip, including the overnight stay at the Premier Inn. We are all looking forward to the next trip. On behalf of the players and parents, I’d like to thank our senior players that have done their coaching badges and that give up their time to coach the U12’s.”
